Home The Book The CD About the Author Inside the Book Contact Us Order Form | Let's face it; parenting has challenges. Whether you're cleaning up your son's room after he saved the lives of everyone on the imaginary planet of Remulak, or consoling your daughter
after her first romantic break up.
Of course, it also has its rewards. Can anything be as fulfilling as watching as your child bows to applause as the star of the school play? Nothing comes close to hearing your adult child tell you that YOU are the person who's always been there. It might take a few decades to hear it, but it's time well-spent. When my oldest son moved to Los Angeles to pursue fame and fortune as an actor, I wanted to make sure he had what he needed to be successful. I wanted it to have value and be memorable. Once I started writing, ideas flowed and tumbled. The result was 135 helpful quotable, easy-to-remember, and insightful, lessons. Something was still lacking. I wanted it to be personal. And then, it dawned on me. Since my children were too young to speak, I had always told them, "The shade of a tree is the very best shade there is." It was inspired by a memory of my own childhood; it was one worth passing along. Of course, my children appreciated my efforts. My family was equally supportive. But I felt there was a value in it that would help others. So, I put the memory into writing, compiled the lessons, had the book published and held my breath while I waited to see what happened. I have been very touched and flattered by the reaction. A teacher in Houston told me, "each day I write one lesson on the whiteboard and we begin our day by discussing it." I had one woman buy a copy for every adult member of her extended family. (I wish her family had been larger; I could retire early!) Others have written me to tell me how it has touched their lives - and helped their children. In one meeting I conducted, I was greeted by a group of women chanting one of my lessons in unison when I entered the room. It reassures me that there are some universal truths to which we all subscribe. We all share them. I hope you'll enjoy them. |
